Yuzhnoye SDO has built a new test bench, a pulsed wind tunnel (PWT). The test bench enables simulation of flight conditions of a vehicle flying at supersonic and hypersonic speeds of 1.5 through 8 Mach and will be used for verifying and proving experimentally the design aerodynamic characteristics of space technology.

Within a short space of time and using its own resources, Yuzhnoye SDO has built a test bench featuring unique performance in Ukraine. Specialists of Yuzhnoye SDO have applied a creative approach to the PWT development, implementing a wide range of unique engineering solutions. Comparing with continuously and periodically operating pulsed wind tunnels, the PWT developed by Yuzhnoye SDO features low consumption of power resources (compressed air and electric energy). The PWT of Yuzhnoye SDO can simulate low supersonic through hypersonic flows (М=1,5¸8) around objects.

Integrated in Yuzhnoye SDO Test Facilities, this test bench will significantly reduce the time and cost of aircraft development. The opening of a new computing facility with high-performance supercomputer and the installation of pulsed wind tunnel in Yuzhnoye SDO have crowned the construction of Yuzhnoye SDO Design and Experimental Complex which will be used for carrying out the full cycle of R&D and design works in aerodynamics.
