We were heartbroken to learn of the passing of Borys Yevhenovych Paton, who was someone very dear to us. This irreparable loss for our civilization echoed in our hearts with the greatest of sorrows.

Borys Yevhenovych was a legend, a man to whom the entire scientific community pays tribute, for his entire life of creative, scientific, state and public activity is an extraordinary achievement in the name of Great Science, progress of humankind, and the true world values.

Throughout the years, he was at the epicenter of the genesis and implementation of the latest scientific and technical ideas in the most advanced areas of human endeavor – rocket and space technology, aviation, nuclear energy and defense technology, fluid physics, materials science, and recent breakthroughs in nanotechnology. Many world-class inventions, discoveries, and technological solutions were brought into practice thanks to the personal charisma of Borys Yevhenovych, his indisputable authority, inexhaustible optimism, and creative energy.

As the president of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Borys Yevhenovych took an enormous responsibility for the destiny of the national science and scientists. Only his impressive authority and well-considered system actions allowed preserving the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and ensured that many academic institutions continued their work. The scientific community of our country owes Borys Yevhenovych a debt of gratitude for preserving highly qualified national scientific personnel, for the opportunity to work given to our scientific institutes, research centers, and academic institutions, which in these difficult times support the creative energy of our scientists and professionals, nurturing their scientific and technical potential and applying the extensive experience they have accumulated.

The entire life of Borys Yevhenovych, a great scientist and organizer of the national science, man of firm convictions and inexhaustible creative energy, true patriot of Ukraine, will rightly become a worthy example for all of us, as an indisputable symbol of boundless devotion to the ideals of scientific objectivity, academic integrity, and profound democracy.

On behalf of all Yuzhnoye Design Office employees and on my own behalf, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, to all who knew him and worked with him. All of our hearts go out to you; we mourn this loss with you.

The cherished memory of Boris Yevgenyevich Paton will forever remain on Earth and in our hearts.
