SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF EUROPEAN VEGA LAUNCH VEHICLE WITH UKRAINIAN ENGINE
The launch of the European Vega light-class launch vehicle was successfully made from the Kourou Space Centre (French Guiana) on August 2, 2017 at 4:58:33, Kyiv time.
The launch vehicle 4th stage main engine RD-843 has been developed by Yuzhnoye State Design Office and manufactured by State Enterprise Production Association Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant.
The launch vehicle placed into sun-synchronous orbits two ERS satellites manufactured by the Israeli defense concern Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI): OPTSAT-3000 (368 kg) under Ministry of Defense of Italy order and Venus (264 kg) for the Israeli Space Agency (ISA) and National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) project.
This launch became the tenth in succession under the Vega program and the second in 2017. Totally, the Vega has placed into orbit 25 satellites for 19 customers during 5-year period of its operation.
