During the period of 20-23 March, 2017, Yuzhnoyoe SDO delegation headed by A.V.Degtyarev, General Designer, took part in the traditional Spring Meetigns held annually by the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and International Astronautical Federation (IAF) in March in Paris where the headquarters of these organizations are located.

The International Academy of Astronautics is an international organizations uniting the leading scientists and engineers working in the field of space research. It was founded in 1960 on the initiative of Theodore Von Karman, one of the originators of aerodynamics and rocket engineering. It was recognized by UNO in 1996. Today, the IAA members are 1148 experts in the space industry from all over the world. The purpose of the Academy is promotion of space research and peaceful space exploration.
The International Astronautical Federation is an international non-governmental non-commercial scientific organization dealing with the problems of space research and peaceful exploration and the problems of rocket engineering and space from legal viewpoint. The Organization was founded in 1950 by the Leaders of 8 nations: Austria, Argentina, Great Britain, Denmark, Spain, France, Germany, Sweden. At present, the Federation has 327 members from 66 countries of the world.

To the most important events of the Spring Meetings with participation of Yuzhnoyoe SDO delegation the following should be attributed:

First – the session of IAA Board of Trustees, which is the highest governing body of the Academy. The agenda of the Board’s session included approval of the plan of academic events for a year, IAA financial plan and a number of other important administrative issues. The session took place in the IAA headquarters, the participants were many leaders of the world’s space community.

In this session, the Yuzhnoye SDO initiative to institute Stanislav Konyukhov (1937 – 2017) commemorative medal was officially supported.

The observe and reverse of the commemorative medal “Stanislav Konyukhov (1937 – 2017)” – the joint award of the International Academy of Astronautics and Yuzhnoye SDO for rewarding the scientists and foreign countries representatives who made significant contribution to the development of international cooperation in the field of space research and implementation of joint space programs.

Besides, the first books about Chinese space edited in the frameworks of IAA historical series were presented. On the initiative of Yuzhnoye SDO, the agreements were achieved on preparation and editing of analogous book about Ukrainian space.

Second – the session of International Program Committee of International Astronautical Federation.

In the frameworks of this event, Yuzhnoye SDO representatives took part in the formation of program and selection of papers for the International Astronautical Congress 2017 – the biggest annual forum of experts and scientists of the world’s space community. In 2017, the International Astronautical Congress will be held in Adelaide (Australia).

Third – On 21 and 23 March, 2017, two sessions of Bureau of the International Astronautical Federation – the highest governing body of the Federation – were held.

In the sessions of Bureau, the reports on Bureau members on the work performed in 2016 were heard and the dates of coming events were agreed. Traditionally, the laureates of a series of IAF existing awards were selected. So, on presentation of Yuzhnoye SDO, a prominent designer, scientist and multiyear Head of the prime space company of Ukraine S.N.Konyukhov was nominated for including in the Hall of Fame of the International Astronautical Federation. This award is granted to the eminent personalities of space industry for personal contribution to the development of astronautics in specific area. The Bureau of the Federation unanimously supported this nomination. The official announcement about it is expected to be at the Congress in Adelaide.

А. V. Degtyarev made a report on his activity conducted in 2016 in the capacity of industry relations IAF Vice President. Major work was performed in four lines: development of the interactive Internet-platform for communication between space big players and start-ups, development of the idea of a series of IAF Regional Conferences, Moon and Mars exploration initiatives promotion, involvement of companies, such as New Space, in the Federation activity.

The Chinese Astronautical Community (CAC) organized solemn presentation of the Certificate to Alexander Viktorovich certifying that he is an international expert and a CAC scientific-and-technical Journal Editorial Board member.

The fourth – Developing Countries and New Communities IAF Working Group meeting.

This workshop became the first meeting between participants of newly-formed   Developing Countries and New Communities IAF Working Group aimed, first of all, at strengthening the IAF contact with developing countries, and involvement of new communities in the Federation activity. Chairmen of the Working Group: the former President of KARI Dr. Joo-Jin Lee, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company Industrial Bodies Chief Manager Mrs. Mary Snitch and President of the Italian Space Agency Dr. Roberto Baffiston. Doctor Degyarev made an affirmative reply to invitation to be a member of this body, as the Working Group objectives are closely related to the initiatives, implemented by Alexander Viktorovich within the Industry Relations IAF Vice President portfolio.

At the IAF Working Group meeting, Yuzhnoye SDO General Designer made suggestions on possible ways of involvement in the Federation activity of new countries among start-ups on their way to space, as well as new professional communities though their sponsorship. A.V. Degtyrev report aroused interest in the Working Group members.

Participation of Yuzhnoye SDO representatives in so important (for the world space community) activity, affecting directly  the selection of directions for global space science and technology development, is indicative of the worldwide recognition of our company specialists professional skill and the Ukraine space industry.
