DESCRIPTION

Cyclone-5 ILV is medium-weight three-stage monoblock rocket. ILV is designed to place spacecraft into low, mean and high earth orbits, including sun-synchronous and GTO.

Cyclone-5 is the derivative of Cyclone-4M but with new second stage and enhanced payload capabilities to place spacecraft into the mean and high-altitude orbits.

Two modifications of Cyclone-5 ILV are developed:

1.  Expendable ILV;
2.  ILV with reusable Stage 1.

Development of this launch vehicle relies to the maximum extent on the existing technologies and procedures, which provide high reliability level and production readiness, minimum terms of development and optimum level of expenses.

Stage 1 is equipped with five Yuzhnoye-developed RD870 engines, which burn liquid oxygen and kerosene as propellants. PA Yuzhmash has already developed production capabilities for the basic components of this engine and they have been manufactured for installation in other engines.

Stage 2 features Yuzhnoye-developed single-chamber liquid-propellant jet engine RD872, being an altitude engine modification of the Stage 1 engine RD870.

Stage 3 uses the Stage 3 of the Cyclone-4 rocket. It is equipped with engine RD861K, which burns the storable propellants NT+UDMH.

Stage and its elements passed complete cycle of ground development testing.

Payload unit is derived from Cyclone-4 rocket. Payload unit has passed complete cycle of ground development testing.

Fuel and dry compartments are made of aluminum alloys. Fairing, bottom protection and payload adapter represent three-layer structures made of composite materials.
