POSITION OF YUZHNOYE SDO CONCERNING THE ELECTION OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF UKRAINE
Dear compatriots!
Today the whole country is waiting for a very important and significant event – the election of the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
This topic is very noteworthy and crucial for the employees of Yuzhnoye SDO.
The role of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine has always been important for all trends of activities during the whole history of Yuzhnoye SDO. Systematic scientific support from the Academy of Sciences ensured that a number of fundamental and applied problems were solved when they emerged during production of combat and space hardware. First of all these are the problems of tightness, welding, creation of new structural materials, propellants, structural strength and durability, mathematical simulation, complex volumetric calculations etc. Scientific support allowed creating a number of high-efficient missile systems and unique models of space-rocket hardware.
In recent years consolidation of efforts and systematic approach to collaboration according to the General Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the NAS of Ukraine and Yuzhnoye SDO in creation of space-rocket hardware under conditions of limited funding and available resources allowed reaching a new level of design and manufacturing technology of the contemporary competitive space-rocket hardware required in the external market.
Yuzhnoye SDO appreciates our mutual achievements and understands the outstanding role of the NAS of Ukraine in high-technology industries that require close cooperation between science and production.
However, today many people in our country do not regard science as “a matter of state importance” quoting academician V. I. Vernadsky. As Borys Yevhenovych Paton, the outstanding person and constant president of the NAS of Ukraine, passed away a number of additional problems came to light in connection with management of the Academy. Borys Yevhenovych as the president of the NAS of Ukraine bore responsibility for the destiny of national science and scientists. His high authority and deeply considered systemic actions preserved the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and ensured activities of many academic institutes. The scientific community of our country expresses its gratitude to Borys Yevhenovych for preserving national highly skilled scientific personnel, for allowing scientific organizations, centers and institutes to work and support creative energy of scientists and professionals in our hard times by developing their great experience as well as their scientific and technical works.
Today the NAS of Ukraine is in a very important and crucial phase of its history for the members of the Academy are to elect a new reputable and highly professional president. Destiny of Ukrainian science and the level of the country’s development depends on this historically significant choice.
We think that all registered candidates for the position of the president of the NAS of Ukraine are undoubtedly worth of this high title. However, from our professional point of view, it is important for any candidate to have an experience in working in the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine as well as professional experience of a scientist gained in physics and high technologies. Hence, we believe that academicians A. G. Zagorodny and V. P. Semynozhenko meet the contemporary requirements for the leader of Ukrainian science. As we can see, both candidates possess great potential, sufficient experience and unquestionable authority. We hope that the generally accepted leader will be elected to develop the progressive state policy in science against all odds, form a team to share his ideas, preserve the principles of administration established by Borys Yevhenovych, maintain and develop the contemporary model of scientific organization for significant influence on national economy and development of high-technology industries, and strengthen the role of Ukraine in the international scientific community.
We believe that the main and most important task of the future President is to fill all governing bodies of the Academy with highly skilled professionals capable of systematic teamwork in order to achieve our mutual goal being the supremacy of science in all spheres of life in our country.
There is no doubt that we all face the complex and responsible choice but we are sure that the newly elected Presidium headed by the President will become the respectable and effective leader of national science if they work together as a team.
