15-TH SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF EUROPEAN VEGA LV
On September 3, 2020 at 04:51:10 Kyiv time, the 15th successful launch of European light-class Vega launch vehicle was made from Kourou launch site in French Guiana.
In the frameworks of the European Space Agency program named Small Spacecraft Mission Service (SSMS), Vega launch vehicle injected into sun-synchronous orbit 53 micro and nano satellites: 7 micro satellites weighing from 15 to 150 kg and 46 cubesats. The owners of these spacecraft are 21 organizations from 13 countries of the world; they are intended to accomplish the tasks of various programs, including Earth observation, telecommunication, science, technology, and education.
The RD-843 main engine assembly which is used as a part of Vega LV 4th stage liquid propulsion system was developed by Yuzhnoye SDO and is series produced by SE PA Yuzhny Machine-Building Plant.
A peculiarity of RD-843 main engine assembly is the possibility of multiple ignitions in flight (up to 5 ignitions) due to which satellites dispensing into different orbits is ensured. Currently, the works continue to improve engine’s characteristics in order to widen the range of payloads to be injected into orbits.
