On 17 October, seminar “Ukrainian Space: at the Intersection of the Past and the Future” was held at the Committee on Economic Development of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Today, the national development strategy has to take into account the changes in the international context for increasing the competitiveness on the global space market and having the space industry be actively supported by the governmental space industry administrations that regulate the social and economic development. Under the contemporary conditions, Ukraine has to take into account global changes in considering the issues of space activities and making decisions with synergetic results.

When the potentialities of attracting investments to the space sector in the world exceed the risks, it is necessary to create the conditions and stimuli for positioning on the market. Direct and indirect benefits to the society and individual citizens from implementation of space projects are potentially huge and can influence the country’s competitiveness.

Today, the international market of space services is a unified space of free partnership that facilitates creation of new commercial products and services, raising of labor productivity in other economy sectors, and accelerated development of regions and national economies.

The seminar participants analyzed the potential of space industry for economic development and strengthening defensive capacity of Ukraine using Yuzhnoye SDO as an example. Alexander Kushnar’ov, First Deputy General Designer of Yuzhnoye SDO, told about new high-accuracy weapons and possibilities of the space industry for increasing our country’s safety.

Pavlo Degtyarenko, Head of the State Space Agency of Ukraine, and Vadym Vasyliev, Director of Association of High-Tech Enterprises and Organizations of Ukraine, took an active part in the seminar.

During the seminar, it was proposed to create the President’s Council for Space Industry Development and introduce the Head of the SSAU into the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Overall, such measures will contribute to the stable development of space industry and allied research-and-production industries of Ukraine.
