With the decree of the President of Ukraine № 518/2020 dated November 27, 2020 Yuzhnoye State Design Office General Director Alexander DEGTYAREV was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) and the Order of State for the outstanding personal contribution to space & rocket branch of Ukraine, building up scientific and technical potential of the state and developing the state-of-the-art aerospace technology.

Alexander Degtyarev passed away on November 24.

On November 26, last tribute was paid to him in Dnepr, with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky attending the funeral.

The president emphasized that with the death of Alexander Degtyarev aerospace industry of Ukraine and the whole world suffered a heavy loss.

«It was the great Ukrainian rocket designer, outstanding scientist. I think that this person is worthy of Hero of Ukraine title because he is the patriot who was making Ukraine famous all over the world», – emphasized the President. He noted that heritage of such people as Alexander Degtyarev remains in the history of the state.

«The main thing today is not to forget and support the enterprise. I promise that it will be done without fail», – assured Volodymyr Zelensky. In addition, the head of the state emphasized the importance of developing the aerospace industry of Ukraine. He noticed that recently this branch was not given enough attention.

«I believe that we have good prospects because intellect has not disappeared, and knowledge was passed on to younger generations. Therefore we will by all means develop the branch, the country should build rockets, build and launch the satellites», – promised Volodymyr Zelensky.

Alexander Degtyarev was buried in Zaporozhskoe cemetery of Dnepr.

The cause, to which he has given almost half a century, will live on and cherished memory of him will remain in our hearts!
